The people believe that worshipping snake gives the powers and benefits of worshipping Lord Shiva. The people consider the Naga festival as the most powerful and auspicious event.

Importance of the Nag Panchami Festival:

The women across the different regions of the country worship the god snake by reciting slogans, fasting on the whole day. Women prepare foods, milk, fruits and place these things before the idol of the god snake. They worship for the welfare of the family members, the astrologers and the ancient saint’s belief that anything offered to the snake on that day will lead to the serpent gods.


According to old customs and traditions worshipping the serpent god on the day of the Naga, the festival offers powerful blessings to the people and people no need to worry about the snake’s harmful effects. The festival Naga Panchami celebrated during the month of Shravan. Snakes come out of the living space because of the raindrops that fill the snake’s living area. Sometimes they tend to kill human lives only when it gets frightened by the activities of human beings. The human must pray to the god snake with a lot of respect and devotion to get the god snake’s blessings.

Cultural values of the Snake Festival:

The ancient traditional stories depict that when the god was playing in the Yamuna river banks, he fell into the river. During that period a powerful and harmful snake named Kalia attacks him. The lord fight against the snake and wins in the battle. The end of the war snake requested the god to spare his life.

The Lord says that he will leave him alive only when he agrees that he will not harm any people. The day Lord Krishna won the battle celebrated as the Naga Panchami. Hence, people should show love and care to animals in the modern world and should harm animals. People should live in harmony with the animals in the dynamic world.
